2. Normally a student must attend a certain number of courses in order to graduate,

and each courses which he attends gives him a credit which he may count towards a degree.

In many American universities the total work for a degree consists of thirty- six courses, each lasting for one semester. A typical course consists of three classes per week for fifteen weeks. While attending a university a student will probably attend four or five courses during each semester. Normally a student would expect to take four years attending two semesters each year. It is possible to spread the period of work for the degree course, though this is not in fact done as a regular practice.

For every course that he follows a student is given a grade, which is recorded, and the record is available for the student to show to prospective employers. All this is imposes pressure from the strain of work, but in spite of this some students still find time for great activity in student affairs. Elections to positions in student organizations arouse much enthusiasm. The effective work of maintaining discipline is usually performed example by cheating, has to appear before a student court. With the enormous numbers of students, the operation of the system

a blood transfusion because you lost a great deal of blood in the accident. However,

第12 页 /共 25页

special care should be taken in selecting new blood for you. If the blood is too different from your own , the transfusion could kill you.

There are four basic types of blood: A, B, AB, and O. A simple test can indicate a person’s blood type, which, like hair and height, is inherited from parents.

Because of substances contained in each type, the four groups must be transfused carefully. Basically, A and B cannot be mixed. A and B cannot receive AB, but AB may receive A or B. O can give to any other group; hence it is often called the universal donor. For the opposite reason, AB is sometimes called the universal recipient. However, because so many reactions can occur in transfusions, patients usually receive only salt or plasmA.liquiD.until their blood can be matched as exactly as possible in the blood bank of a hospital. In his way, it is possible to avoid any bad reactions to the transfusion.

There is a relationship between your blood type and your nationality. Among Europeans and people of European ancestry, about 42 percent have type A while 45 percent have type O. The rarest is type AB. Other races have different percentages. For example, some American Indian groups have nearly 100 percent type O.

16. Parents Are the Best Teachers

第15 页 /共 25页

内容需包括以下方面:

1.你对“父母是最好的老师”的看法; 2.举例说明你的观点。 (15 分)

Firstly, parents know us very much. Parents give us life, and I think that we will spend large amount of time with them. So they know our merit and demerit in details. Meanwhile, they will help us to get rid of our demerit.

Furthermore, parents possessed many experiences. Since they are older than us, they have experienced many things. Sometimes, they are just like our models. And as the saying goes: \"Example is better than precept.\" So we will unconsciously copy some of our parents' habits and styles of behavior, i.e. we can learn many things from them. Finally, parents will teach us everything. Since school teachers can just teach us knowledge from the books, our parents can teach us everything. For example, I learn knitting, cooking and makeup from my mother, while learn fixing leaky faucet from my father. They are the persons who love me most, so they will teach me everything without reservations.

Just as the saying goes: \"There is no place like home.\" And I think there is no teacher like our parents. They are the best teachers in our life.

4. In the United States elementary education begins at the age of six. At this stage

nearly all the teachers are women, mostly married. The atmosphere is usually very friendly , and the teachers have now accepted the idea that the important thing is to make the children happy and interested. The old authoritarian (要绝对服从的) methods of education were discredited (不被认可) rather a long time ago--so much so that many people now think that they have gone too far in the direction of trying to make children happy and interested rather than giving them actual instruction.

The social education of young children tries to make them accept the idea that human beings in a society need to work together for their common good. So the emphasis is on co-operation rather than competition throughout most of this process. This may seem curious, in view of the

fact that American society is highly competitive; however, the need for making people sociable in this sense has come to be regarded as one of the functions of education. Most Americans do grow up with competitive ideas, and obviously quite a few as criminals, but it is not fair to say that the educational system fails. It probably does succeed in making most people sociable and ready to help one another both in material ways and through kindness and friendliness. (10 分)

Should the University Campus be Open to Tourists?

University is students’ fight goal, entering the university means the promising future for

students. In most university campus, the scenery is very beautiful, some campus are even the hot tourist sites. Like Cambridge and Oxford, many people go there to have a look at the beautiful sites. Campus seem to be the open to tourist sites, I think it is not good to be open.

On the one hand, when tourists come, there will be a lot of rubbish. We always hear about the news that in the tourist sites, many rubbish are left, which makes the sites polluted. University campus are the places for students to study, the places should be clean and quiet.

On the other hand, when campus is open to the tourists, it means anyone can go into the school, it will be not safe to students. Some bad people will pretend to be the tourists and go into the

campus to steal things. Some students will fight against the bad guys and will get hurt. Opening the campus gives the bad guys the chance to make crime.
